If so, Dr Neil Lunt (neil.lunt@york.ac.uk) at the University of York and his team would like to hear from you. They have been funded by the National Institute for Health Research to explore how and why people make the decision to travel overseas for treatment, what the financial implications are for the people travelling overseas and the NHS, and how the medical tourism industry is developing.
They wish to listen to your positive or negative experiences of accessing dental services, cosmetic surgery, hip or joint replacements or fertility treatment overseas.
Anonymity and confidentiality will be assured at all times.
Your medical records will NOT be accessed. Further information on the project can be found at the following website: http://www.medicaltourismresearch.co.uk
If you wish to take part in the project, please contact Dr Laura Machin (laura.machin@york.ac.uk / 01904 325 006) who will provide further information and suggest a date and time to be interviewed.
Each year about 50,000 go abroad for dental, fertility, orthopaedic, or cosmetic services treatments, and many people travel to the UK for medical services, such as abortion, that they cannot access in their home country because of cultural, religious or legal reasons. Medical tourism is organised by a growing commercial industry ranging from insurers, brokers and marketers. Increasingly, policy makers and professional associations draft legislation and guidelines to protect medical tourists and those providing the services.
