Now in their 3rd year, the 2010 awards attracted a diverse selection of entries showcasing the outstanding scrutiny being carried out both at a local level and at national strategic level. Out of a total of 95 entries the 24 were shortlisted. Services Jessica Crowe, Executive Director, CfPS, says: “This year has seen our highest ever number of entries, from the widest ever range of organisations, demonstrating the excellent work of those unsung heroes – Britain’s public scrutineers – who hold the powerful to account. Enabling some of the most vulnerable groups to get their voices heard, innovating to save money and improve services, and exerting influence through imaginative use of the media and the power of their arguments, these scrutiny entries provide lessons for all in public services.”
Baroness Sally Hamwee, Chair of the Good Scrutiny Awards judging panel, says: “The judges were impressed with the outstanding entries submitted which reflect many different aspects of scrutiny and accountability at work. Our judges were both moved and cheered reading about the impact that some of these projects are having in local communities. We applaud the work and dedication of these scrutineers.”
Winners, including one overall winner chosen from across the 24 shortlisted entries, will be announced at the gala dinner to be held at CfPS 2010: Accountability Works! Sustaining outcomes in changing times on 30 June at The Brewery, London.
