What is happening?
Liverpool City Council and Liverpool Primary Care Trust are looking at new ways of delivering day services to people who have mental ill health.
In February 2011, the council’s cabinet gave its approval for to modernise day services and to develop a new model of care. They agreed to work towards having two council-run mental health and well-being hubs in the city. These hubs will support a care pathway that focuses on recovery, incorporating a six-week re-ablement period for people who are newly referred.
What have we been doing?
At the end of 2010 we began talking to people who use our services and already have a good idea of the kind of services and support we should be delivering. An independent consultation was conducted by Together for Mental Health and Liverpool Mental Health Consortium also produced the What Women Want report. As we make our plans, we want to hear the views of all the people who have an interest in the way our services could be delivered.
Over the coming months we will be talking to people about the ideas we have and also the issues and opportunities that are important to you.
When we have done this, another report will be delivered to the council’s cabinet for final approval.
How you can get involved
We have already been speaking to the staff in the three day centres that Liverpool City Council owns and operates and are starting to speak to all the people who use the day services that the council both operates and also commissions.
