Royal Hospital Enter and View Report - March 2010

Liverpool LINk has completed its first Enter and View report of 2010. Representatives from Liverpool LINk visited the Royal Liverpool Hospital in March.

Liverpool LINk has appointed volunteer Health and Social Care Ambassadors (HASCAs) to each NHS Trust within its jurisdiction (i.e. the area covered by Liverpool PCT). Initial discussions between Stanley Mayne, Liverpool LINk Ambassador to the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust (RLBUHT) and officers at The Royal identified a number of topics of particular interest to the LINk. Amongst these was the care of older people. Liverpool LINk is currently looking at health and social care service provision for older people across the city, as part of the remit of its Healthy Cities Task and Finish Group, and was particularly interested in how services provided at The Royal fit within the wider ‘care pathway’ for older people.

Furthermore, the Liverpool LINk report on Healthy Weight (Liverpool’s obesity strategy) noted that further investigation of healthy eating within health and social care settings would be welcomed, as would further information regarding food waste and access to locally sourced produce within local health and social care services.

Liverpool LINk was therefore invited to The Royal with a view to conduct a fact-finding exercise concentrating on two areas in particular a) services for older people and b) catering services. The visit sought to highlight good practice and positive outcomes as well as to ask questions about any potential changes or improvements that could be made.
