The Disabled Motorists Federation (DMF) was established over 40 years ago, since which time it has failed to receive any funding towards addressing specific projects and remains staffed entirely by volunteers. As its name would imply, the DMF originally concentrated its efforts on addressing motoring support services and solutions for disabled people, their carers and their families who failed to qualify for assistance from central government sources.
Within the last seven years, since the appointment of Peter Lyne as its National Vice-President, the DMF has vastly diversified. The federation continues to provide free consultancy advice to several central government departments and local authorities on issues relating to disability. However, within the last two years the DMF is now represented at national level on a Department of Health and NHS advisory organisation, a Department For Education consultative committee and within the Greater Merseyside and Cheshire region on the Community Involvement Panel for the Crown Prosecution Service where issues relating to the development of safer communities (by the eradication of disability hate crime and crimes against ethnic minority groups) are addressed. It was in 2008 that the DMF won a Merseyside Police community safety award and were advised to seek a position on the CPS's Community Involvement Panel which was successfully confirmed in February of this year.
Although a national organisation, Peter Lyne who as a Wirral resident, is fully aware of the sizeable contributions that both Liverpool LINk and Liverpool CVS (together with their many member charities and organisations) make towards improving the Merseyside community, that he decided that he wanted to explore opportunities of effective networking with those organisations who address the needs of disabled people, their carers and their families by creating more inclusive societies and improving their lifestyles.
Issues relating to healthcare, education, recreation and leisure are now being addressed as too are the provision of suitable adapted motor vehicles for short term and long term leasing for wheelchair users or people with other forms of disabilities who need to gain more frequent access to their communities as well as having the opportunities to enjoy holidays further afield.
The Disabled Motorists Federation is now wanting to give all member charities, community groups and specialist service providers within membership of Liverpool LINk the opportunity to establish reciprocal website links with the federation by promoting their organisation on the appropriate pages of www.dmfed.org.uk Commercial companies who believe they have something to offer through the DMF's website which will prove of benefit to disabled and vulnerable people are also encouraged to make contact with the federation.
NATIONAL, EUROPEAN AND WORLDWIDE PUBLICITY. Due to the many issues the DMF have been addressing within the areas of Social Inclusion, Equality and Diversity it will be the ONLY UK based charity to receive extensive publicity within the Equality and Diversity pages of the 'hard copy', website, and CDROM versions of the following 'high profile' political publications (all on-line editorials are currently active and will remain in place until at least 2012 with the opportunity to update information as regularly as required);
THE 2010 EDITION OF THE UK PARLIAMENTARY YEARBOOK (due for distribution in October) THE EU YEARBOOK (TRANSLATED INTO 27 LANGUAGES AND SERVING A POPULATION OF 500 MILLION), due for distribution in January 2011.
THE DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR YEARBOOK (a worldwide distributed publication issued to approximately 10,000 senior diplomats throughout every country across the world). This publication is widely read in political circles.
The DMF is certain that by other charities, community groups, commercial companies etc agreeing to reciprocate website links, they too will gain much indirect benefit from being associated with the DMF's website in view of the forthcoming extensive editorial publicity.
