Third Sector TB Awareness

21\09\2010

These FREE half-day seminars will explore rising levels of tuberculosis in communities that experience health inequalities. The seminars will introduce The Truth About TB, a new national programme of training and resources to support third sector organisations in building awareness of TB into their work with affected communities.

Tuberculosis (TB) has been increasing in England for over 20 years, with more than 9,000 new cases in 2009. Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, the homeless population and people with weakened immune systems are disproportionately affected.

Overview of the day:

  • The department of Health’s TB action plan and the truth bout TB awareness programme
  • Clinical overview of TB
  • Service user perspective
  • Local TB demographics and issues
  • The role of third sector organisations in local TB awareness programmes

Who should attend?

Directors and senior programme managers/coordinators from third sector organisations working with the communities most at risk of TB, predominantly those working with south Asian or black African communities, or homelessness and substance misuse organisations.
